The Loveland Masters Swim Club was founded by local swimmer and coach Kevin Polansky in 1978. The early days consisted of a informal group gathering three days a week for workouts under coach Polansky at the Loveland High School Pool.
In 1980 the Loveland Sweetheart Meet was founded. This is a meet hosted by the club which has been held annual in February. Club members help host the meet by volunteering their time to run the event, timing system and even compete!
Over the years this group has grown in size to become one of the largest in Northern Colorado. Club members come from a multitude of backgrounds and interests. Members of the group include past Olympic medalists, old and balding collegiate swimmers, triathletes, English Channel swimmers, Iowa farmers, some grumpy old men and novices wanting a good workout. If you can put a speedo on in the wee hours of the morning, we'll probably have someone you'll fit in with!
Some of the early masters who are still attending today are Gale Bernhart, Peggy Shockley and Jane Eller. These three, along with Kevin Polansky, are the longest attending master swimmers with at least 30 years participation.
