MJ Redman, Social Chair
MJ learned to swim in college when she saw a sign-up for water polo that said “no experience needed”. She played water polo for Brown University and with a masters team in Seattle afterwards. She met Coach Doug at Washington State University where she swam masters during veterinary school. MJ has participated in many triathlons and open water swims. She enjoys mountain and gravel biking. She lives in Fort Collins with her husband, dogs and cats.

Susan von der Lippe, Social Media Chair
Susan has swum with Loveland Masters for a couple of decades, but recently joined the board to help with their social media, including sending out the team newsletter. Susan has tons of experience in competitive swimming, having been a collegiate swimmer herself and attending many practices and meets for her two children who grew up in Loveland, swimming with the Loveland Swim Club. Her son Jake, is a former college swimmer and graduate from Dennison College and daughter Katie is a former college swimmer and graduate from Fordham University.  The Loveland Masters board motto is “It’s just swimming”. Susan believes in focusing on the fun, always, and shows this by often creating swim bingo for her lane, among other entertaining lane games.

Brad Schmidt, Member at Large
Brad grew up on a lake in Michigan and spent most of his summer (and some winter) days in or on the water. At around age 12, his best friend’s mom signed him up for swim club – completely without his consent – but thankfully it took and he enjoyed it immensely, swimming through high school and clubs in college. During a 20+ year break from swimming, he gained a wife, daughter, some degrees including a JD, a weiner dog, and some weight. In early 2020, now living in Loveland, he found his local masters team and has had a blast being back in the pool, really taking to open water swimming and increased involvement in our team. This was strange because he was a sprinter in his younger days, detesting anything longer than 100 yards. Somehow, in 2021, he completed the entire Mountain Swim Series and a handful of additional open water races – including 2 10k races.

Alexandra Lessem, Member at Large

Alexandra Lessem swam on the local swim team while growing up in Aspen and has fond memories of traveling to meets in surrounding mountain towns. She took a long break from competitive swimming, but started swimming again with a masters group in Santa Barbara and then Santa Monica, California in the early 2000s. She and her husband moved to Loveland in 2004, but she did not start swimming with Loveland Masters until 2010 when she decided that if she was going to fulfill her lifelong dream of competing in a triathlon, she should probably start swimming again. She has competed in many triathlons over the last 11 years including her 7th Lake to Lake this year. She is also a lover of open water swimming and if not in the pool can be found in the wee hours of morning making her way across the lake. She works as a family nurse practitioner in Greeley and lives in a little, old house (build in 1909) with her husband, two sons, two dogs, three cats, and one hamster.
