Loveland Masters swimming has provided organized fitness swimming to area adults for more than 30 years. Our group is open to all swimmers (fitness, triathlete, competitive and non-competitive) who want to improve their fitness and swimming technique. The group includes adults age 18 and above who have even the most limited of swimming abilities to those who are retired college swimmers. While Loveland Masters is not a learn-to-swim program, we have a lane for most all swimming levels. Loveland Masters practices are professionally coached, with workouts designed for the needs of all swimmers.

As part of United States Masters Swimming (USMS), the national governing body for adult swimming and locally through the Colorado Masters Swimming Association (COMSA), Loveland Masters provides practice sessions three days a week, year round.  Many Loveland Masters members participate in area meets, clinics, and open water swims. These events help our group build camaraderie, however participation in these events is not required, though strongly encouraged.

Our members come from a variety of swimming backgrounds, from Olympic medalists, to people who picked up the sport later in life due to injuries. Loveland Masters includes adult who have a wide variety of interests outside of swimming, including hikers, road and mountain bikers, triatheletes, runners, yoga enthusiasts, and skiers. Our members come from a wide variety of professions, from accountants and doctors to landscape engineers, and marketing professionals. If you are an early riser and like to exercise in the morning, you’ll fit in with our group!

History

The Loveland Masters Swim Club was founded by local swimmer and coach Kevin Polansky in 1978. The early days consisted of an informal group gathering three days a week at the Loveland High School pool for workouts under Coach Polansky. Some of the early members still attend today including Gale Bernhart, Peggy Shockley and Jane
Eller.  These three, along with Polansky, are the longest attending masters swimmers with at least 30 years participation. Over the years Loveland Masters swimming has grown in size to become one of the largest adult swim groups in Northern Colorado.

In 1980 Loveland Masters began hosting the Sweetheart Meet, an annual tradition each February ever since. The meet is a locally hosted by Loveland Masters members, who volunteer their time to run the event–from hospitality and timing to competing!
